Please join us for a conversation with Fleur Roos Rosa de Carvalho, curator, and Bram Donders, researcher, of a major retrospective of Eva Gonzalès to take place at the Petit Palais, Paris, and the Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam, in 2026-27. In dialogue with Allison Deutsch, Fleur and Bram will discuss how scholars are engaging with the category of “women artists” today, how to navigate the shadow of figures like Manet and Morisot, how to handle gaps in the historical record, and the place of assessments of quality. Fleur and Bram will share new approaches to archival research, including a digitised database where they have complied hundreds of reviews and letters that shed light on the gendered reception of Gonzalès’ art. At this pivotal stage of their project, the curators invite questions and perspectives from the audience as we consider Gonzalès’ oeuvre and the politics of its exhibition together.
